And the Clumsiest Pandering Award goes to...

Urban Outfitters has a line of girly t-shirts that say "Everyone loves a (race/religion) girl," which presumably are supposed to be bought and worn by girls of that race/religion. But funny enough, as you see above, the store made zero attempt at actually getting models that match the shirts. The Catholic and Jewish shirts are modeled by the same girl -- and ok, hey, maybe she's both. But, the Asian one? Come on now. What happened, did the store misread the shirt and think it said "Aryan"?
"I just thought it was odd that they make no attempt to match the ethnicity of the model to the phrase on the shirt. Not that they have to, but for a product that is so obviously meant to be worn by a specific group of people, it seems odd," writes an asute reader named Kristin, who noticed this while shopping online and pointed it out to me. Totally.

Thanks for posting. It's also weird how they do use different models for some of the shirts. It would have been less weird if it was the same girl wearing every shirt. In which case I would have just thought that their objective was for Web users to see the shirt on an actual person and not just a picture of the clothing.

I think there are two reasonable ways to interpret Urban Outfitter's choice of models for these shirts. First it can simply be read as an ironic joke, or it can be seen to show that anyone can wear the shirts. By wearing a shirt that supports a minority group of which the wearer is not affiliated she can show her love for that group. My concern is in the lack of a shirt for the majority. This is a clear example of reverse racism. They really need to make a shirt that says everyone loves a W.A.S.P. For some reason it's just not acceptable to love the majority.

I agree that Urban Outfitters didn't match the appropriate race to the appropriate model. It doesn't convince me to buy any given shirt.
Asian girls are from all over the Asian continent including India, Russia, Vietnam, etc. The original Everyone Loves An Asian Girl shirt had writing in Oriental script but again Asian means anywhere in the continent of Asia not just the Orient!

Uh... what the fuck? How freakin idiotic can Urban Outfitters get?! So just because the girl wears glasses, she's automatically asian? racist assholes!

Yea....u see there is a thing called originality. This is what these shirts represent. It doesn't fucken matter who wears the stupid things it's just a joke. The shirts are 'different' and most clothes from the store are the same way. It's a great store with great clothes and you need to get your head out of its ass and mind your own business....did you actually think the store would close down or remove the shirt for you? Get a life and shop somewhere else.
P.S: those glasses arent racist you idiots they're a style and you all apparently don't have lives other than accusing people of that =)

That's a really good point... also notice that the "Asian" one is wearing glasses, thereby stating that she has sucessfully changed from being Jewish/Catholic to Asian just because of her cool new accessory. My opinion? Fucked.
