What a quack

Oh Mallard, Mallard, Mallard. You're trying to make some sort of social commentary about how everyone uses phones, but as usual, you fail on two points: One, you're using a phone while making your point, and two, you'd be so easy to recognize in a crowd because you're a walking, talking duck, wearing a suit and a tie.
That confusion aside, this strip does give further insight into just how bad of a reporter Mallard Fillmore is. You thought he was lousy just because, like a Fox News reporter, his news coverage is ultimately just a lead-in to some semi-incoherent conservative commentary? Well, take this: As any reporter except for Mally O'Duckster will tell you, cell phones are a must-have. But then again, maybe Mallard just can't afford it. After all, his employer's idea of a computer monitor is apparently a dented piece of metal with four screws on the side. Just what kind of ramshackle operation does this duck work for, anyway? He's like Jeff Gannon, but with hair.

Not to mention that doesn't look anything LIKE Dupont circle. A) no landmarks, which is understandable, and B) more importantly, Dupont is a Hipster spot. The people there don't look like that. that looks like capital hill.
In fact, that whole comic is just retarded.

That isn't a computer monitor, I'm fairly certain that is supposed to be a pay phone. Still, Mallard Fillmore sucks.
Boo hoo, technology has altered the way people communicate and I am cynical about it for some reason. I am drowning in a world ruled by leftist nimrods, where the cold common sense of conservative wisdom has been tossed to the side!
Also, speaking of the comics page, is it just me or has Johnny Hart gotten about ten times worse as of late? It seems like literally every other strip I read is some inane attempt at political commentary. It's always a lazy teacher saying, "Thank god for tenure," or whatever else.

Jon Steward really nailed Mallard Fillmore on the head. The strip is all set up with no punchline. When Tinsley does attempt to deliver a punchline, he's so inept at it that it falls flat. It's pretty much an illustrated version of the incoherent rants of some senior citizen upset that he just can't figure out today's world.
Not to mention his rants are about 3 years behind the times. EVERYBODY'S ON CELL PHONES!! IT'S MADNESS!! Yeah.. we get it Mallard. Welcome to 2003 when that joke had some bearing. It may be a sad truth, but it's no longer a joke, ducky. Deal with it.
My main beef with Tinsley's strip is he doesn't really use it to express any real commentary on anything of any real importance. He just bitches artistically about things that get his goat and that he thinks HE'S right about and everyone else is not only wrong, but insane. He tries to use exaggeration as a way of comically overstating and illustrating his points, but he takes it so far into the realm of implausibility that he misses the mark because he overshot it. Comedy often has one leg in the realm of the comically surreal, and one leg firmly planted in reality. Mallard Fillmore does a cannonball off into the surreal and, as a result, cannot retain enough of a grasp on plausiblity to be even remotely funny.
